Huge Step to Benefit Animals and our Community!
The HSHC Board has had spay/neuter as a number one priority for a long time, but April 14th was the day that this dream became a reality!
The new clinic will only be able to accommodate the HSHC animals who are up for adoption. Currently, there are over 100 animals at the shelter needing the procedure. The clinic will be able to service the shelter as homeless animals come in and are placed for adoption.
Last year in Highlands County 3,000 animals were euthanized (humanely killed) by the County Animal Control Facility due to animal over-population. Many animals were adoptable and healthy, but the number of animals continually exceeds the number of people who are interested in adopting them. This clinic will go a long way in helping to control the animal population.

The mission of the Humane Society of Highlands County Florida, Inc (HSHC) is to provide shelter to lost, homeless and unwanted companion animals, to furnish medical and other services for the care of companion animals, to care for, protect, and find quality homes for the homeless and neglected cats and dogs, to advocate for animal welfare, encourage community involvement and education to further the bond between people and animals, for the mutual benefit of both.
HSHC is a NO KILL for space facility, which means that animals remain in our care until they are adopted. They are not euthanized unless they are terminally ill or are aggressive, which would make them a threat to the public. Some animals stay more than 2 years until they find the right family!
The HSHC is supported entirely by public donations, kennel/cage sponsorships, fundraisers, wills and bequests. We do not receive any local, state or federal funding, nor funding from the Humane Society of the United States.

Bronson
Bronson is a beautiful golden lab that is full of energy and loves people. He is neutered, microchipped and 85 lbs! He has had no training, so we are working on the basic walking on a leash, sitting and not jumping. Bronson will need a large yard (6ft fence) to play and exercise in and a big family would probably make him very happy. He is sweet, but does bark to get attention - Bronson is ready for adopton!
FREE UNLIMITED TRAINING for dogs adopted through the Humane Society of Highlands County! Training is given at the shelter on a weekly basis. Very personalized in small groups. Please call to register. |
